I wanted to see if I could mimic the style…. obviously the answer to that is “no” haha /:3
I’ve finished the third custom monster design from the Kickstarter! This one was for a spine, and a dragon-like monster.
The one thing I really don’t want to do with monsters, especially bone monsters, is have the body part they are based on actually function as that same part in their own body. So I wanted to avoid having the spine actually serve as the monster’s back, body or spine. Fortunately I came up with what I thought was a cool solution and the commissioner was totally on board. This ended up being one of my favorite monster designs I’ve done. I love imagining it galloping around.
Here is the second custom monster design I did for the Kickstarter! (I am making a point not to name or link to the people who commissioned these just in case they don’t wish to be named, but this guy is an Internet buddy of mine and he’s a cool dude.)
This time I was given a more specific image- a monster made of teeth, with one large “hub tooth” and several small teeth buzzing around inside, that could be sent out at will. At first I wasn’t sure about the idea because one monster with multiple consciousnesses goes against “the rules” in my head for Monster Pulse, but we decided it was more of a “hive mind” type of thing, which works.
I was told to shoot for a “gross/cute” tone so I came up with a few ideas, and the commissioner selected one which I’d labeled “bug dragon???”, and this final design comes from that. I tried to give it a sort of ugly/cool alien bug feeling, like a mid-tier boss in a video game of something. I imagine this monster would be a bit hard to tame because it is large, powerful, and smart, but it could probably be reprimanded/guided by yanking on those floaty root things. Just spitballin’ here!!!!

One of the Kickstarter rewards was for me to draw the backer as a Monster Pulse kid, complete with a custom original monster of their choosing. Here’s the first one I’ve finished! I got permission from the backer to post it here.
I was given the body part “hands”, and a suggestion to make it cute, but otherwise I was given pretty free reign for this one. I drew up a number of “hands monster” concepts with different shapes and looks, and the backer picked this birdlike one, so I went with that. The main inspiration for this one was the “Hand of Glory”. I was also thinking about similar hand-related things like palm reading and gestures to ward off evil, so I thought this monster could be sort of mystical, and related to fortune and magic. Since it was supposed to be cute, I tried to model it off cute animals like foxes, crows and owls, and other such small animals with mystical associations. I’m pretty happy with the result. You will notice the kid wears mittens and a longsleeved coat to cover his lack of actual hands.

The third most popular ship was Julie/West. :3 Julie is probably not really strong enough to carry West like this, but these are all non-canon anyway. Happy Valentines <3
This week I put up a Valentine’s Day shipping poll and promised to draw the top three results. The top three results were actually Bina/Abel, “I don’t ship anything”, and “I ship everything”, but those two don’t count, haha. The runner up to Bina/Abel was Julie/Bina, so I drew that one first and I’ll draw the other two soon. Enjoy :3
