Monster pulse spoilers I guess!!! Don’t look at this if you aint caught up
About two weeks ago I decided to redraw the scene you have seen in the last week or so of comics. I got a new vision in my head of how the scene would go and since it was a lot shorter I decided to go for broke and redraw it. The photoset above is the scene I had before the redraw. Below is the “canon”, redrawn scene as it appears in the comic.

There are a few reasons for the changes.
The main reason, and why I felt i needed a redraw in the first place, is how Lulenski comes across. In the first version, she’s really just standing there, not really doing anything until Roger pushes her away. After that, the fact that she sees what happens to Roger and THEN picks up a rock feels a little too premeditated to me.
I changed the scene so she would take a more active role in the event, and also to give her a reason to find and use a weapon before anything happens to Roger. I also feel that when she hits him in the head the first time, it comes across as more instinctual, impulsive. She sees a terrible thing attack her friend’s head and swings at it without thinking. Also, by the time she starts to comprehend what’s happening and get truly horrified, she’s already kinda gotten the ball rolling, instead of starting a violent act right there.
I don’t want to tell you what to think of Lulenski’s actions in the comic, but I thought it would be interesting to show the old pages for comparison. And I didn’t want her to come across as a straight-up cold blooded murderer, or for her action to seem unbelievable or unrealistic. There are other reasons for the changes too, but those would be way more spoilery to talk about here.
I like the motion and speed the new pages have. The old pages do have a few things the new ones don’t, though. I think they’re a little more creepy, because his face “reveal” is more drawn out, and it’s also probably more clear what’s going on (with that big splash page).
But ultimately I like the idea of downplaying what’s happening a little, and I feel a lot stronger about the new pages.
