Digimon Tamers is the big one, which was my favorite back in the day and the sub version is all available on hulu!! I really love what they did with the monster-kids concept, but I also really wanted to avoid the things they did on that show that I didnt like. So its kind of an inspiration for what to do AND what not to do… for example I didnt like that the show kinda lost focus on the core group of three kids and their friendships and relationships, and i don’t want to do that.
Just really liking “kids with monster pets” stories in general! I ate em up when I was a kid.
I guess I was also inspired by stuff like Scott Pilgrim and Homestuck where a creator is taking the things in pop culture that they love and are passionate about and creating a new story and world out of it. I wanted to do that but for the “monster kids” genre I guess….
I dunno! There’s a hell of a lot of stuff. I really wanted to do a long episodic story that was fun and action-y and poppy and bouncy but still had room for different themes and elements and stuff.
