Anonymous asked: how would you know what is and is not erasure if you are not a part of the group that is being erased
i’m gonna try to actually answer this one seriously: because a person who is not gay can still read a book and see that there is not any canonical, stated homosexuality (or much sexuality at all really) present in the book, and understand that said homosexuality can not be erased by a television adaptation of that book because it is not present to be erased in the first place. i’m not going to pretend to be an expert on the subject, or that i always know what’s erasure and what isnt because i certainly dont. but in this specific case, i’m also not going to automatically defer to every person, gay or otherwise, who tells me that if you don’t think holmes and watson are two super cute white english gay guys who kiss each other, and have no other nuances to their relationship, then you are erasing homosexuality in media. and thats the last i’m gonna say on the subject! i read the books and i actually do not personally like them very much! i prefer raymond chandler when it comes to ~classic mysteries~
