Decided to put the movie list on a separate post
List of Movies in Order:
Who’s That Knocking At My Door. Scorsese’s first movie. Haven’t seen it, know very little about it. Done
Boxcar Bertha. Have barely even heard of this one. Seems like a blip on the radar but may contain HIDDEN GEMS?? Done
Mean Streets. Seen it, but eager to revisit. Done
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. My personal favorite Scorsese movie, and one of my favorites of all time. Have seen it many times and would love to see it again. Done
Taxi Driver. Seen it a few times, love it. Eager to see how much a departure it is compared to earlier work. Done
New York, New York. Haven’t seen it and deeply regret that fact! Very excited about this one! Done. I shouldn’t have been that excited
Raging Bull. Only seen it once but enjoyed it. Done.
The King of Comedy. A personal favorite. Excited to compare Deniro performances.
After Hours. Perhaps my most-regretted oversight as I constantly hear it talked up as an overlooked gem. Very excited for this one.
The Color of Money. Haven’t seen it, don’t know much about it.
The Last Temptation of Christ. Probably the most important one out of his body of work that I have not seen. Looking forward to finally filling that gap.
Goodfellas. Seen more times than I can count. Always a huge treat.
Cape Fear. Saw it a long time ago, have no memory of it. Might watch it along with the original version if I can swing it, just for fun.
The Age of Innocence. I know absolutely nothing about this one. I didnt even know it was a Scorsese movie! Should be interesting.
Casino. Perhaps the only one I’m not too excited about revisiting. But maybe I will figure out why everyone loves this one upon rewatching it.
Kundun. I’ve seen most of this one but not the whole thing. I really like Scorsese’s “departure” movies (of which I’m realizing there are many, and he is perhaps unfairly pigeonholed).
Bringing Out the Dead. Never heard of it???
Gangs of New York. Another one I’ve seen pieces of but not all the way through. Evan and Lela have wanted to show me this one since we became neighbors. I hope I can persuade them to wait a little longer to watch it with me.
The Aviator. Seen it, enjoyed it. Would also be interested in watching some actual Hughes in preparation, since I have been exposed to very little and it feels like a hole in my education.
The Departed. Not the best, but I liked it a lot when I saw it. Not too interested in seeing it again but I guess Mark Wahlberg was pretty fun in it.
Shutter Island. A favorite of mine in spite of its apparently lukewarm reception. I found it even better upon rewatching so logic dictates that the third time will improve it even further. Right??
Hugo. Seen it in theaters. Hopefully it will be out on dvd by this time.
I haven’t included the documentaries but I might rewatch Shine a Light anyway because I like it so much.
